Parking

All University parking areas are zoned, reserved, and/or restricted. Parking is prohibited except in lots, streets, and areas indicated. Legal parking at all times is restricted to spaces marked for parking. All parked vehicles must display a WSSU parking permit appropriate for the zone where parked.

Metered Spaces

Metered parking for short term visitors are located at various locations accross campus.  Metered spaces will be enforced Monday-Friday from 7 am to 7 pm.  Metered parking can be found in the following areas on campus:

  • Lot T - on the front side of Diggs Gallery.
  • Traffic Circle - located at the main campus entrance next to R.J. Reynolds building.
  • Lot G - Off Martin Luther King Jr. Drive in the second parking lot on the left after passing K.R. Williams Auditorium.
  • Wallace Street - near the Alumni House.
  • Lot C - along the row of H/C spaces at W.B. Atkinson.
  • Lot Z - along the row of H/C spaces at the Anderson Center.
  • Lot R - behind the Thompson Center.

Metered parking is $0.25 per 15 minutes up to one hour - these parking spaces are for visitors only.

Departments may request groups of parking spaces for guests attending conferences, meetings and seminars.  Parking assignments for such groups will be determined by the department of Public Safety.  A $2.00 fee per permit may be charged.

Guest Permit

Temporary guest permits are available for individuals that are invited to come to campus by Faculty, Staff or students for the sole purpose of conducting official university business.  Departments may request these permits for guest speakers, lecturers and those who need to attend meetings, seminars or workshops.  Arrangements for such permits should be made with the Department of Police and Public Safety Traffic Division at (336) 750-2905.

Temporary Permits

Temporary permits are available for up to 30 days without a registered vehicle and can be purchased for a fee of $30.00 per month.  Temporary permit can be issued to temporary employees, adjunct faculty or vendor.  Fees paid for the temporary permits do not apply to the cost of purchasing a permanent permit.  All temporary permit holders must park on the southeast side of the Bowman Gray Stadium shuttle lot.

Visitors may obtain a parking permit at a cost of $5 per day from the Public Safety Department located in the Old Maintenance Building.

Handicapped employees and students must purchase a WSSU parking permit and display the State of North Carolina or a valid handicapped license plate in order to park in handicapped spaces in zoned parking areas. Employees and students temporarily handicapped by illness or injury may be issued special permits allowing them to park in designated handicapped spaces. Handicapped visitors should display State of North Carolina or a valid handicapped license plate and a WSSU visitor permit.

All students and employees, whether full time or part time, must register vehicles driven on campus. No student or employee may register a vehicle which is not owned by him or her, his or her spouse, child, parent, or guardian. A vehicle is considered registered ONLY when the permit is displayed. Every WSSU employee authorized to hire temporary or part time employees is responsible for informing such employees to register their vehicles. Vehicles may be registered between the hours of 8:00 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday at the Public Safety Department in the Old Maintenance Building.

Permits must be clearly visible at all times. Permits should be hung from the rear view mirror or placed on the lower left inside windshield on the dashboard. Permits are not permanently affixed to the vehicle. Permit holders are responsible for keeping vehicles locked at all times to prevent permit theft. Replacements for stolen permits may be obtained only upon payment of a $20 fee and completion of an official State of North Carolina stolen property police report. Filing a falsified police report is a crime.

One permit per person. No permits for second vehicles. Summer session fee is for each session. Employee permit charges for new and terminating employees are prorated on a monthly basis, partial months count as full months. Student permit charges are prorated by semester. Summer school permits are not prorated.

Regulations are enforced 24 hours per day 7 days per week in Handicapped, Fire Lane, Reserved, and Resident Student spaces.

Parking citations are delinquent if not paid within 72 hours. Fines may be paid by cash, check, credit/debit card or money order at the Public Safety Department in the Old Maintenance Building between the hours of 8:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m. Monday through Friday. Payment may also be made by U.S. Mail to:
