The Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics Scholars Program

The Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) Scholars Program offers an academically and culturally enriched undergraduate experience that will prepare students interested in science, technology, engineering, or mathematics (STEM fields), for graduate education. The goal of the program is to increase the number of students, historically underrepresented in the STEM fields, who earn the Ph.D. degree.

Many areas are regionalizing their economies as the nation continues its transition from a goods-producing economy to one driven by research, healthcare and information management.

Occupational trends for the next decade will require students to pursue their career goals strategically. In most cases, education beyond the baccalaureate degree will be essential for career advancement.

In order to meet the needs of the Triad region and nation, employers will seek to hire students who have graduate degrees, who can work independently, who can think critically yet are creative, and who understand the necessity of addressing consumer needs and social problems. The most highly sought students will be those with graduate degrees in the STEM disciplines: science, technology, engineering, and mathematics. The STEM Scholars Program at WSSU seeks students who are interested in continuing their education beyond the baccalaureate degree.
