The Academic Advising Center at University College actively promotes student learning, development, and success by helping students identify, clarify, and achieve their lifelong educational goals in a welcoming, enriching, responsive, and effective environment.
Students in their first year and sophomores without a declared major are advised by professional academic advisors in the Academic Advising Center. (Beyond the first year, students are advised by faculty members in the student’s major department.)
Academic advisors assist students in deciding on a major, developing an academic plan toward timely graduation, finding appropriate support resources (both in University College and elsewhere on campus), and determining the best path toward meeting students’ personal and professional goals.
It is critically important that all students meet with their academic advisor on a regular basis – not just to process their registration, but to discuss any problems, concerns, or questions that they might have about life and studies at WSSU.
Students with fewer than 30 credit hours will have a University College Academic Advising Hold placed on their registration records. This restriction prohibits first-year students from making changes to their registration without consulting an academic advisor in University College first.
There is a University College academic advisor assigned to each major at WSSU. To see which academic advisor is responsible for students in each major, please see here.
Our hours are from 8am to 5pm Monday through Friday. Students are strongly encouraged to make an appointment by contacting the advisor directly via phone or e-mail. Advisors may also be reached via online chat using the link to the right.
