The overall goal of the Master’s degree program in Computer Science and Information Technology is to provide master's level instruction in cutting edge computing technology. The program combines a traditional computer science core with applied courses in information technology and is designed to satisfy the post baccalaureate development of working professionals, offering most courses in the evening. This program develops a skill set for the application of computer technology resources to solve information problems, as well as communication and leadership skills. Educational Program The program requires 30-33 semester hours of graduate course work in computer science and information technology. Students will be required to complete a nine-semester hour core in computer science and choose a nine-semester hour concentration in computer science or information technology. Additionally, the student will select 12-15 hours in elective courses that will complete the concentration focus, including: software engineering, database administration, network administration, Internet systems, high performance computing, or computational science/scientific computing. Points of Distinction Program designed for working professionals with evening classes and full or part-time studies $13 million state-of-the art facility with dedicated graduate student lab and research labs Integrated program combining the traditional foundations of computer science with the application of cutting edge information technology Graduates equipped with high-quality professional skills used in industry, business, biotechnology research, education, engineering, and government systems Access to national super computer centers Graduate faculty with extensive research experience including relationships with NASA, NSF, and DoD Application Requirements An earned baccalaureate degree in a related field from an accredited college or university Official report of Graduate Record Examination (GRE) scores - General exam (verbal and quantitative) Three sealed recommendation forms and/or letters (at least two from faculty and one from a practicing professional) A written personal statement (essay describing professional goals, experience, and research interests) Resume reflecting work experience Documentation of prior learning which satisfies program prerequisite knowledge (applicants who do not hold the BS in computer science or a related field need evidence of prerequisite course work or equivalent experience in high-level programming, operating systems, and data structures). Students who do not have the prerequisite knowledge may enroll in the Certificate in Computer Programming. Suppmental Application for Graduate Admission International applicants must also submit: Financial certification ($20,000 subject to change without prior notification) Sponsor’s affidavit Official college or university transcripts in the official language of instruction, if other than English, along with a certified or notarized translation of these records International applicants whose native language is not English and those who earned their undergraduate degrees from institutions outside of the United States, which do not use English as the medium of instruction, must submit official scores from either the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) or the International English Language Testing System (IELTS). The minimum score for admission is 550 for the TOEFL paper-based test, 213 for the TOEFL computer-based test, or 6.5 for the IELTS test.
