Anthony Artimisi holds the Bachelor of Music Degree in Percussion Performance from Eastern Illinois University (graduated Cum Laude) and the Masters of Science in Music Education from Tennessee State University in Nashville, TN. While at Tennessee State, he served as an adjunct professor of percussion & Assistant to the Director of Bands where he taught applied percussion to undergraduate students, organized, instructed and wrote music for the “Aristocrat of Bands” drum line and assisted the symphonic and concert band percussion sections.
As a professional drummer, percussionist, and drum programmer, he has recorded with many accomplished songwriters and producers, including James Slater, Ross Winetsky, Rachael Warwick, Jack Greene and Mark Moffatt at many of Nashville’s premier recording studios. He appears on “Joe Pace Presents Sunday Morning Service” record which was # 1 on the Christian Beats Charts and #7 on the Billboard Gospel charts.
Further work includes two years of weekly appearances on the “Bobby Jones Gospel Hour” on Black Entertainment Television (BET), with many other appearances with a variety of artists on Trinity Broadcast Network (TBN) and Country Music Television (CMT). As a touring musician, he performed with Dove Award winners The Crabb Family, Warner Bros. recording artist Shannon Brown, Compass Records owner and recording artist Alison Brown, legendary gospel artist Dr. Bobby Jones & the Nashville Super Choir, and Grand Ole Opry legend Jack Greene. Artimisi maintains an active recording schedule.
At Winston-Salem State University, Artimisi teaches Overview of the Music Industry, Artist Management, Record Label Marketing, Freshman Seminar for Music, Senior Recital/ Project, and coordinates Internship in the Arts for Music Business students. He serves on multiple university committees, oversees the recording studio and multiple computer labs and maintains the music portion of the school’s website.
In the spring of 2007, the university approved Artimisi’s proposal for the funding of renovations and upgrades to the Fine Arts recording studio. The ambitious project has brought national attention to the university and Music Business program. The state-of-the-art facility and equipment, which Artimisi installed, was featured in numerous publications including Mix magazine, Apple Pro Audio, and Automated Processed, Incorporated’s (API) website.
Recently, Artimisi spearheaded a new internship initiative in the Music Business area entitled “Sound University Music Group” (SUMG). SUMG is a student-run campus record label dedicated to promoting the musical talent on WSSU’s campus, as well as creating a new music business scholarship for outstanding students in the area. Artists on the label will receive royalties based on sales. Through SUMG, Music Business students receive experience in management and marketing of concert events, and music technology students will gain experience in live sound and recording studio procedures. SUMG also serves as an internship opportunity for students in the Mass Communications and Computer Graphics & Animations departments as well as students in the School of Business & Economics.
Dedicated to advancing the field of percussion pedagogy and performance, he is continuing to make a name for himself as an author and composer of percussion literature. His article "Producing and Editing Drum Loops" was published in the August 2007 edition of Percusive Notes. Row Loff Productions has published Artimisi's Show-Style Cadence Pac series of drum line cadences and a drum line feature entitled Take the Brakes Off!. He has also been published multiple times in the Music and Entertainment Industry Educator's Association's (MEIEA) magazine.
Artimisi is an endorser of Trick Drums, Grover Pro Percussion and Silverfox Percussion, and is a member of the Percussive Arts Society (PAS), in which he serves on the Technology and Pedagogy committees, and the MEIEA. He is as an Ambassador for the music notation software Sibelius, and continues to serve as a member of the betatesting team for Toontrack, the creators of the Drumkit from Hell – Superior, Custom & Vintage and EZdrummer product lines.
Artimisi has begun work on the Doctor of Musical Arts in Percussion Performance degree from the University of North Carolina – Greensboro.
