School of Education and Human Performance

We are pleased that you have selected an academic program in the School of Education and Human Performance. We pride ourselves in being a student-centered institution and strive to provide excellent program choices, sound academic advisement, and individual attention. The School of Education and Human Performance at Winston-Salem State University hosts two major departments: Education and Human Performance and Sport Sciences. Together, these departments offer nine undergraduate programs and two graduate programs. The Education Department includes the following programs: Birth through Kindergarten (0-5), Elementary Education (K-6), Middle Grades Education (6-9), Special Education/Specific Learning Disabilities (K-12), and a Master of Education Degree in Elementary Education (K-6). The Department of Human Performance and Sport Sciences includes the following undergraduate programs: Physical Education (K-12) with teaching and non-teaching options, Sport Management with three different options, and Therapeutic Recreation, Rehabilitation Studies, Exercise Science. The Master of Science in Rehabilitation Counseling is also offered through the Department of Human Performance and Sport Sciences.

 

The School of Education and Human Performance, in addition to overseeing teacher education programs also collaborates with the College of Arts and Sciences which offers secondary education programs.  The Teacher Education Council serves as the advisory body for all teacher education programs, generates policies, monitors operations, and insures compliance with standards established by accrediting agencies.

 

Our academic programs enjoy state, regional, and national accreditations. These accrediting agencies include the North Carolina Department of Public Instruction, National Council for the Accreditation of Teacher Education (NCATE), National Association for Sport and Physical Education, North American Society for Sport Management, the National Recreation and Park Administration/American Association for Leisure and Recreation Council on Accreditation and the Council On Rehabilitation Education. It is our goal that upon successful completion of your chosen program, you will be prepared to address the challenges of your profession with creativity, commitment, and respect for human differences.
