Child Developement Center and Lab School (CDC &LS)   

The Purpose

The Winston Salem State University Child Development Center & Lab School (CDC & LS) is in the Department of Education in the School of Education and Human Performance. The CDC & LS is designed to meet five important needs:

  1. To provide a professional research-based teaching facility for children ages two through five years where the staff, environment, and curriculum are tailored to stimulate cognitive, social, linguistic, emotional and physical development that include a family context.
  2. To provide an on-site observational and experiential laboratory facility for WSSU Birth-Kindergarten (B-K) students, other department disciplines, and surrounding community campuses.
  3. To provide a model of excellence through collaborations and partnerships locally and statewide with various organizations and agencies in the pursuit of best practice for young children and their families.
  4. To assist parents in becoming advocates and active participants in their children’s education.

  5. To provide an environment for students to gain marketable skills from the WS/FC School’s Vocational Program pursuing a Life Skills curriculum.
