Office of Student Teaching

The Office of Student Teaching (OST) plays a critical role in the preparation of teacher education majors and teacher licensure candidates   at Winston-Salem State University.  The major responsibilities of the OST include facilitating all education related field experiences and coordinating the processes for education majors to demonstrate proficiency in written communication skills required as part of admission to all teacher education programs.  The OST works closely with administrators in local school systems and other approved settings that will provide placement opportunities to support teacher education majors and teacher licensure candidates in becoming highly qualified teachers in their respective areas.

All teacher education majors and teacher licensure candidates   must present proof of professional liability insurance prior to beginning any field experiences.  Professional liability insurance is specialty coverage that will provide legal protection in the event that legal action is brought against them while they are performing field experience activities.  We encourage students to acquire professional liability insurance through one of the following options:

o   Student North Carolina National Association of Educators https://www.nea.org/JoinNea

o   Professional Educators of North Carolina http://www.pencweb.org/

o   Specialty area professional organization

o   Place of employment
