Rams Have Heart! - The School of Health Sciences and Living Healthy Partners are sponsoring Free Cardiovascular Health Screenings for 100 students and 100 Community members.  The free, comprehensive cardiovascular screenings include a thorough medical history, blood draw, glucose, cholesterol profile, body mass index and body fat, blood pressure, electrocardiograms and echocardiograms. Assessments should take approximately 1.5 hour to complete.  

Student screenings will take place at the A. H. Ray Student Health Center on Thursday, October 29, from 7a.m. – 5 p.m. You’ll receive free NFL memorabilia and you’ll be entered into a drawing for two tickets to an NFL game along with hotel and travel expenses.

Community screenings will be held at the Community Care Center, 2135 New Walkertown Road, on Friday, October 30, from 7 a.m. – 6 p.m., and Saturday, October 31, from 8 a.m. – 12 p.m.

You must pre-register for your screening.

PT studentsThe School of Health Sciences is currently the fourth largest producer of nurses in North Carolina. Our Clinical Laboratory Science program was the first undergraduate Internet-based degree program in the North Carolina System and one of the first of its kind in the nation.

Bachelor's of Science degrees are offered in Clinical Laboratory Science and Nursing. The Clinical Laboratory Science program prepares students in laboratory methodologies and related technologies which are essential to the performance of diagnostic, nursing studentresearch and forensic investigations. An Internet-based outreach program is offered for the working adult with an MLT background to acquire a bachelor's degree.

The nursing program has a variety of entry points, including the traditional Bachelor's of Science in Nursing Degree (BSN), RN to BSN, LPN to BSN, Paramedic to BSN and Accelerated BSN programs. The RN to BSN option is offered at nine different locations off-campus. The LPN-BSN Option is designed for licensed practical nurses seeking a Bachelor of Science degree in nursing. ADL LabApplicants must be licensed in the state of North Carolina. The Paramedic to BSN Option is designed to assist those persons certified to practice as Emergency Medical Technician Ð Paramedics/EMTs in obtaining a BSN. Eligible candidates are those persons who have been granted certification by the North Carolina Office of Emergency Medical Services or the National Registry. The individual must have one year of experience as an EMT-Paramedic.

The Accelerated BSN Option allows students with bachelor's degrees in majors other than nursing to obtain a BSN. The Accelerated Option is funded by North Carolina Baptist Hospital. cls studentEach January, 45 students are admitted to this 13-month option. Students accepted in the option are required to sign a contract to work full-time as a staff nurse for North Carolina Baptist Hospital forthree years after completion of the program.

At the Graduate level, a Master's of Science degree is offered in Occupational Therapy, Physical Therapy, and Nursing. The Occupational Therapy Program offers a 2 year post baccalaureate entry-level masters degree. The program's goal is to graduate competitive occupational therapy occupational therapy practitioner with skills in clinical and community practice, research, administration and consumer education. The Master of Science in Physical Therapy program has a large number of partnerships with local and regional medical centers. The program features a state-of-the-art motion analysis laboratory.The MSN Curriculum design is conducive to working adult learner's needs. This 2-year graduate program has two curriculum tracks. One track prepares family nurse practitioners to deliver primary care services. Another track prepares nurse educators to teach in nursing programs.

Comments Invited During WSSU DON Accreditation Process

Winston-Salem State University Division of Nursing is pursuing re-affirmation by the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE). The Commission invites constituents to submit written comments concerning the BSN and MSN educational programs.  Comments are held in confidence by CCNE and will be used by the evaluation team during the application process.
