WSSU to Host Safety Day

Date:  September 4, 2013

Summary:  WSSU, in conjunction with National Preparedness Month, is sponsoring "Safety Day", a program to raise awareness about safety issues and protocols.

Description:

For thousands of college students, the campus environment presents new experiences and new challenges. In an effort to help make their experience in their new environment as safe as possible Winston-Salem State University (WSSU), in conjunction with National Preparedness Month, is sponsoring "Safety Day", a program to raise awareness about safety issues and protocols sponsored by the WSSU Office of Emergency Management from 11:30 a.m. – 2:30 p.m. on Wednesday, September 4, in the breezeway of the Cleon F. Thompson Student Services Center.

"We can't predict, but we can prepare," said Darrell Jeter, WSSU Emergency Management director. "Safety Day is an opportunity for all students, faculty, staff and the public to increase awareness of actions they can take to safeguard themselves in the event of a crisis.  So, don’t miss this opportunity.  It may save your life one day."

The program will include booths manned by area emergency services agencies, public and mental health organizations, disability service agencies, domestic violence prevention, the WSSU Health Science Mobile Clinic, campus police and community safety, the Forsyth County Drug Coalition and more.

In addition, the program will include safety skits, videos, a live self-defense demonstration, as well as entertainment from the Red Sea of Sound, the WSSU cheerleaders, the T.I.M. Dance Group, and Greek step show.
