Summary:  The Department of Human Performance & Sport Sciences presents a 2-day conference designed to facilitate dialogue about the diverse factors impacting heart disease among African-American Women.

Description:

The Department of Human Performance & Sport Sciences is sponsoring 'The STEPS To A Healthier Heart' Research Dissemination, Reunion, and Community Engagement Conference. This is a 2-day conference designed to facilitate dialogue about the diverse factors impacting heart disease among African-American Women.

The STEPS To A Healthier Heart Research Dissemination, Reunion, and Community Engagement Conference will provide participants, presenters, researchers, practitioners, community leaders and policy makers with a venue to share successful strategies and approaches to reduce heart disease, heart attacks and strokes among the targeted population.  It also proposes to improve awareness of preventive health practices and provide access to available and appropriate health resources.

Day 1, Friday May 30 (8:30-1:15) is designed for Researchers, Policy Makers, Health Professional Practitioners, & Community Leaders.  The theme is “Research Dissemination: Research Impacting Policy and Practice.”  

Day 2, Saturday May 31 (8:30-3:00) is a Health & Wellness Expo designed for STEPS Participants, their guests and the community at large.  The Theme is "Making Communities Heart Smart."

This event will be free and open to the community. Event registration is required.
