Two WSSU Facilities Professionals Are Recognized by State Office
Brenda Fulmore and Owen Cooks display award.
Owen Cooks, associate vice chancellor for facilities at Winston-Salem State University (WSSU) and Brenda Fulmore, Historically Underutilized Businesses (HUB) coordinator, were recognized at the 30th Annual State Construction Conference in the Public Sector category for their good faith effort in supporting HUBs.
The two were nominated by Bernard Foy, a consultant with Piedmont Contractors Resource Center for their efforts to improve the levels of HUB contract participation at WSSU. Foy noted that Cooks had been a long-standing supporter of HUB contractors and had participated in several meetings with contractors to gain insights into improvements the university needed to make. Following those meetings, Cooks hired Fulmore to coordinate the HUB efforts on campus, which Foy said defined Cooks’ “attentiveness to the concerns expressed and underscored his commitment to increase HUB participation.”
The nomination also pointed out that Fulmore had taken steps to support the increased number of HUB contractors participating in formal bid opportunities. She was also cited for ensuring that HUB companies were aware of university projects.
The State Office for HUB annually recognizes individuals and companies that fall in the historically underutilized business category or support and advocate for HUBs.
