WSSU Motorsport Management Program Recognized by NCMA
The Motorsport Management Program at Winston-Salem State University (WSSU) received a 2011 Motorsports Industry Award from the North Carolina Motorsports Association (NCMA) at the group’s recent fifth annual awards event.
“We are very pleased and excited to receive an industry award from the NCMA,” said Dr. Travis L. Teague, coordinator of the Motorsport Management Program. “The industry’s recognition of our program highlights the value they see in preparing the future leaders of the sport from an academic perspective. We have been overwhelmed at the support the sports leaders have provided for our program and our students. We certainly look forward to continuing to grow these critical relationships in the years to come.”
The NCMA awards program was held on January 21 and honored racing legend Junior Johnson. Johnson was one of the early superstars of NASCAR and credited with pioneering many racing technologies and driving styles. The association also presented its first Media Recognition Award to Chris Economaki, recognized as the “Dean of American Motorsports.” Other award recipients included the North Wilkesboro Speedway, NASCAR Media Group and Goodridge USA.
“The motorsports industry is made up of many small, medium and large businesses that provide jobs, education and economic impact,” said Greg Fornelli, NCMA chairman-elect and president of Stock Car Steel & Aluminum, Inc. He said the NCMA award event recognizes that motorsports industry.
NCMA is a non-profit trade association representing the $6 billion motorsports economy in the State of North Carolina.
