
WSSU Research Program Accepting Applications

Winston-State University’s (WSSU) NIGMS-MBRS-RISE Program is now accepting applications for the 2011/12 academic year with a start date as early as September 1, 2011. The MBRS-RISE Program at WSSU is geared toward increasing minority participation in biomedical and behavioral research and admission into Ph.D. or MD/Ph.D. programs. Applications will be viewed immediately upon receipt, so applications should be completed and submitted as soon as possible. The requirements and benefits are as follows:
Requirements
• Full time academic standing at WSSU
• Freshman, Sophomores, Juniors or Seniors
• Biology, physics, chemistry, psychology, computer science or math majors
• Real interest in biomedical/behavioral research
• Interest in pursuing a Ph.D. in the biomedical or behavioral sciences
• Underrepresented minority (i.e. African American, Hispanic American)
• A cumulative and major GPA of 2.5 or better
Benefits
• Hands-on research experience
• Hourly wages of about $12 per hour (up to but no more than 15 hours per week)
• Opportunity to travel to one scientific conference per year
• Participation in professional development seminars and activities
