WSSU Professor Named to National Planning Group
Dr. Teresa Conner-Kerr, chair of the Department of Physical Therapy at Winston-Salem State University (WSSU), has been named to the planning group for the Association of Specialty Professors (ASP) workshop on wound repair and healing in older adults.
Conner-Kerr is one of 17 medical professionals tapped to plan the workshop that will focus on identifying gaps in knowledge, the possible disparities in research for older adults and setting priorities for training in the area. Other representatives are from institutions that include Yale University School of Medicine, Johns Hopkins University and the National Institute on Aging. The workshop will be held in February 2014 in Washington, D.C.
In addition to serving as department chair and professor, Conner-Kerr is also a researcher in the field of wound care. Her research has included work to determine the ability of ultrasound waves to destroy antibiotic-resistant bacteria that causes open wound infections.
The ASP is the organization of specialty internal medicine divisions at medical schools and community teaching hospitals in the United States and Canada. Its mission includes supporting new initiatives and influencing policy related to subspecialty internal medicine.
