WSSU Receives $140,000 grant for Scholarships
Winston-Salem State University (WSSU) has received a $140,000 grant from the Lettie Pate Whitehead Foundation to be used for general scholarships during the upcoming 2013-2014 academic year.
"We are grateful for the continued financial support and our longstanding partnership with the Lettie Pate Whitehead Foundation," said Michelle Cook, WSSU vice chancellor for University Advancement. "Their investment is critically important to the success of our students, 86 percent of whom qualify for need-based financial aid and 60 percent who have zero expected family contribution to their college expenses."
The Lettie Pate Whitehead Foundation is based in Atlanta and devotes most of its resources to annual scholarship grants in the Southeast. These scholarships are awarded at more than 200 institutions of higher education and provide financial assistance to thousands of women.
