Communications and Cultural Studies Lecture

Dr. Lawerence GrossbergThe symposium, sponsored by the Department of Mass Communications at Winston-Salem State University (WSSU), will be Thursday, March 6, at 3:30 p.m. in the Donald J. Reaves Student Activities Center on campus.  The event is free and open to the public.

Entitled "Contexts and Conjunctures:  Rethinking Culture, Race, and Media in the 21st Century," the symposium is being held to highlight the university department's recently redesigned undergraduate curriculum and its new name as the Department of Communication and Media Studies that will be effective July 1, 2014.

In addition to Grossberg's lecture, the symposium also will feature a panel of scholars from Wake Forest University and Winston-Salem State discussing the complex interplay of culture, race and media in society. That panel discussion will begin at 10:00 a.m. in the Reaves Student Center.  Dr. Corey D. B. Walker, dean of the WSSU College of Arts and Sciences and Anna Hodgin Hanes professor of the Humanities, will serve as panel moderator.
