Admission to the program is categorized as full or associate.
FULL ADMISSION --- ENTERING FRESHMAN
Incoming freshmen who receive institutional scholarships are offered full admission into the Honors Program upon admission to WSSU. (*Institutional scholarships include Chancellor's Scholarship (full) and the Achievement Scholarship (partial).) Incoming freshmen who do not receive institutional scholarships may apply to the Honors Program after their first semester.
** Entering freshmen who are admitted into the Honors Program may be invited to participate in the honors summer JUMPSTART Program. This program, which is a collaborative effort of the Office of the Provost and the Honors Program, is designed to acclimate honors freshmen to the rigors, demands and expectations of university life as a Chancellor's Scholar. Participants in this one-week program attend academic seminars and enrichment workshops, engage in team-building activities, participate in cultural excursions.
ASSOCIATE ADMISSION --- CONTINUING FRESHMEN, SOPHOMORES, AND JUNIORS
Continuing freshmen, sophomores and juniors may be offered associate admission to the Honors Program at WSSU. Students who have completed at least 12-15 semester credit hours at WSSU and earned a cumulative GPA of at least 3.25 may file formal application for admission to the program.
** At the appropriate time during either the fall or spring semester, an email will be sent to all current WSSU students (typically after midterms) with details about the application process (criteria, deadline, interview schedule, etc.). Additionally, interested students should have two letters of support from WSSU faculty in order to be admitted to the university's Honors Program.
CONTINUANCE IN THE HONORS PROGRAM
All students in the Honors Program must maintain a GPA of 3.0 or above each semester. Students, whose GPAs fall below 3.0 will be allowed one semester to bring the GPA up to the required level.
