Internal auditing is an independent appraisal and consulting activity established within Winston-Salem State University to add value and improve operations. Internal Audit provides a broad range of audit services designed to help Winston-Salem State University meet its objectives. One of the key roles of internal audit is to monitor risks and ensure that the controls in place are adequate to mitigate those risks. Internal audit is a university governance cornerstone along with the Board of Trustees, University Management and the Office of the State Auditor. Internal auditing helps WSSU comply with new legislation and regulations for enhanced university governance. Internal Audit's menu of services includes, but is not limited to:

  • Investigations of alleged fraud, waste and abuse situations
  • Evaluations of internal controls
  • Support for the Office of the State Auditor
  • Benchmarks of performance and best practices
