Transformative Science Initiative

Welcome to Winston-Salem State University's Science Initiatives website.

Winston-Salem State University is committed to providing a life-changing student experience and engaging students in learning opportunities - both in and out of the classroom - that expand their intellectual horizons, heighten their aspirations and transform their lives.

Our work in the STEM (science, technology, engineering, and mathematics) related areas contributes to WSSU's commitment to our students and is renewed through the undertaking of new and bold science endeavors collectively referred to as the Transformative Science Initiative (TSI).

TSI is an integrated approach to STEM education that will change the face of science at WSSU. It consists of three programmatic areas – highlighted in the above Venn diagram – that will facilitate student academic success and faculty teaching & research excellence. TSI also is a "team sport" whose success will depend upon the cooperation of all members of our community, i.e. administrators, faculty, staff, and students. 

This is an exciting time for science here at Winston-Salem State University. I look forward to working with each of you as we build upon this institution's strengths in teaching and research, and create new and mutually beneficial priorities.
