University Engagement
University Engagement provides support for the institution and its priorities through alumni, government and community relations initiatives as well as marketing and communications, which is also charged with ensuring the overall continuity and consistency of the University's brand. Our goal is to elevate the level of support WSSU receives from the public, alumni, faculty, staff and students.
Alumni Relations is charged with maintaining a lifelong connection between WSSU and its graduates by developing collaborative interactions that strengthen our ties with past, current and future alumni around the community, the state, the nation and the world. Having the support of the alumni is a key element in the success of the university and, more importantly, in the success of our students.
We engage the alumni community through events and programs that make sure this important group is aware of the vision, goals and strategic direction of the university. We also provide opportunities for alumni to connect with the current student base and to reconnect with the overall university community.
Government and Community Relations
WSSU's active presence in the community plays an important role in the economic development, social and cultural aspects and overall well-being of Winston-Salem and surrounding communities. The university continuously works to foster greater collaboration within the community through services and programs that address community needs and provide additional resources to the community while also enriching the learning experiences of our students.
Through partnerships with local school districts we areable to enhance student readiness for college and teacher preparation for ourown students. Partnerships with localhealthcare organizations allow our students to provide services to needyresidents in our community while improving their own professional skills. We also focus on leveraging the resources ofthe university to support local business development and to improve oursurrounding neighborhoods.
Additionally, we seek to build relationships and work collaboratively with governmental and community leaders on issues of importance to the success of our students and the future of our institution. It is important that these decision makers are aware of who we are and what we do if the university is to have a voice in policy development that affects higher education in general and WSSU specifically.
The Office of Marketing and Communications supports the university's role as a leader in higher education by its efforts to increase public awareness of WSSU, its programs and its brand; by publicizing its accomplishments and resources to a wide array of audiences; and by supporting the university's efforts to be a school-of-choice for potential students. We support the key areas of successful student recruitment efforts, fundraising and athletics initiatives.
Using various communications vehicles, including digital and social media, Marketing and Communications staff members produce high-quality print and electronic publications; cutting-edge multimedia; Web site content and design; outstanding marketing materials; and numerous internal communications pieces.
