Campus Safety Letter
Winston-Salem State University’s campus is pedestrian friendly and relatively crime free. The University community numbers more than 6,000, including hundreds of visitors who come and go each day.
The Department of Public Safety stands ready to assist the campus community in any way possible. Our police department is a full law enforcement agency organized under North Carolina General Statute 116. Our officers have full law enforcement agency status, with powers identical to those of municipal police, on all WSSU property and streets running through and adjacent to the University. Our department also provides traffic, parking, environmental health, and public safety services for the campus.
Safety and security at WSSU is a team effort. Faculty, staff, and students serve as our partners in keeping the campus safe by avoiding risky behaviors and by reporting suspicious situations. Please call us whenever you see anything suspicious, if you feel threatened, have a safety concern or simply see a need for expanded police services to meet the community needs.
You can reach the WSSU Police Department seven days a week, 24 hours a day, 336-750-2900, or by using any of the emergency call boxes located across campus. The Police Department is located in the Old Maintenance Building.

Each fall, we publish an Annual Security Report to provide students, faculty and staff with basic information that can help make your campus experiences safer and more enjoyable.
