Parent Page

Parents and family play a very important role in the life of a student and your support helps to ensure their success.  As a parent, we know that this is both an exciting and potentially stressful time for you and your student. At WSSU, we want to support you as you and your student make this transition.

This web page is for you. Here you will find tips, important deadlines that you should know and links to other resources. Each month a new topic will be featured to help you support your student. So check often for the latest information and news.

This Month’s Highlights

  1. Understand the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA) - a Federal Law that protects the privacy of the student education records. The law applies to all schools that receive funds under an applicable program of the U.S. Department of Education.

WSSU must adhere to FERPA requirements; therefore, it is critical that your student is responsible for accessing, interpreting, and managing their information.

Please be advised that the financial aid award package is the student's responsibility.  As such, federal regulations require that the student review and accept and or decline the aid package. The student is also responsible per federal regulations for the completion of loan entrance counseling and the master promissory note.
  2. Make sure your student checks their Rams Online (BRO) Account frequently. They will need their Banner ID and PIN. By accessing BRO they can view important information regarding:
    • Financial Aid Awards and Requirements
    • Student Bill
    • Important Notices
  3. Encourage your student to check their WSSU email frequently. WSSU student email is an official form of communication to new and continuing students.
  4. Help your student meet the FAST PASS requirements- this will make for a 'stressless' arrival on campus and move-in.
  5. Ask your student about their bill (available no later than July 11th) and the financial aid award - determine if you will need additional funds to cover the Student Bill. If your student has health insurance coverage, he/she can waive the mandatory health insurance coverage and reduce the Student Bill by $802 each semester.
