WSSU Scholarships for Merit Program

Scholarships for Merit are offered to new, first-time freshmen enrolling for the fall semester who meet the criteria for admissions to WSSU.  The minimum criteria for admission is a 2.50 GPA, an SAT score of 850 or an ACT score of 17, and completion of the minimum course requirements as established by the UNC system.

Winston-Salem State University’s Scholarships for Merit Programs include:

  • Chancellor Scholars Program
  • Provost Scholars Program
  • Renaissance Scholars
  • Various Institutional Merit-based Scholarships

The Chancellor Scholarship honors students with outstanding academic records who are committed to building better communities.  The Chancellor Scholarship includes coverage of tuition/fees, room/board and books.

The Provost Scholarship honors students with outstanding academic records who are committed to building better communities.  The Provost Scholarship is a partial award in the amount of $6,000 per year.

The Renaissance Scholarship honors students with outstanding academic records who are committed to building better communities.  The Renaissance Scholarship is a partial award in the amount $6,000 (toward the cost of on-campus housing) per academic-year.

There are various other Institutional Merit-based Scholarships available.  Like the Chancellor, Provost and Renaissance Scholarships, these awards honor students with outstanding academic records who are committed to building better communities.  The Scholarships are partial awards in various amounts.  The awards typically are program/degree specific.
