Biomedical Research Infrastructure Center
The WSSU Biomedical Research Infrastructure Center (BRIC) is a center of excellence dedicated to basic biomedical and translational research to promote the understanding and prevention of human diseases including heart disease, cancer, drug addiction, neurological disorders and pain. Areas of research include biochemical and cellular mechanisms, neuropathology, genetic control of cell growth and differentiation as well as tissue damage and regeneration. Our research in improving minority health is the foundation for new strategies, vaccines and diagnostics necessary to reduce mortality rate in the minority community. Through dedication of our mission of improving health and our commitment in biomedical and translational research, our aim of training the future generation of scientists are achieved.

Twenty MARC U*STAR and NIGMS RISE Scholars proudly represented WSSU at the 16th Annual Biomedical Research Conference for Minority Students in Tampa Florida. Lanazha Belfield, a senior biology major won Best Oral Presentation in Physiology; Beverly Dosso, a senior chemistry major won Best Poster Presentation in Cancer Cell Biology and Victoria Sedwick, a senior chemistry major won Best Poster Presentation in Chemistry.
