Named For: Nicholas Longworth Dillard
Dillard Hall, constructed in 1971, is a residence hall for female students. It is named in honor of educator and former Winston-Salem State University Trustee Nicholas L. Dillard. Dillard began his college education at Bennett College, but he completed his A.B. degree from Shaw University and later received his master's degree from the University of Michigan. Dillard served as principal of Caswell County High School in Yanceyville, N.C., for 38 years. During his tenure as principal, the teaching faculty increased from 3 to 36 and the student body increased from 80 to 1,100. He also oversaw the opening of a new Caswell County High School in the 1950s.
