Multimedia Policies

The Media Collection is located on the second floor west. The collection is available for use by faculty, students, and staff. The area contains musical scores, records, compact discs, slides, videos, and a small collection of CD ROMS. The collection also houses necessary equipment for viewing and listening: VCR, CD player, cassette player, power amplifier, DVD, and television for educational viewing. The equipment is for use in the Media area only and may not be used outside the designated service area.

A Ram Card is required to use the Media collection. Leave your ID card with the staff person at the 2nd Floor Help desk / Media. All materials are checked out at the Media desk on the second floor. If you visit the Media area and no one is present to help you, please go to the Circulation desk on the first floor for assistance.

Mission Statement

The Multimedia collection will be developed and maintained to adequately support the university mission and curriculum with a primary emphasis on music.

Circulation Policy

Media is available and may be checked out as described:

Musical Scores Yes Checked out for three days, but can be altered for a three week check out. Available to faculty, staff, and students.
Video Tapes Yes Maximum of 3 days. Available to faculty only upon request. Up to three compact discs may be checked out at one time.
Compact Discs Yes Maximum of 3 days. Available to faculty only upon request. Up to three compact discs may be checked out at one time.
Slides Yes Maximum of 3 days. Available to faculty only upon request. Up to three compact discs may be checked out at one time.
Record Albums No
Cassette Tapes No
Equipment No

Media items are not available through interlibrary loan. Library staff will not copy any resources included in this collection. United States Copyright law will be followed and is posted at the appropriate locations.

Collection Development Policies

  • Faculty will be responsible for recommending resources (scores, CDâ??s, videos, and CD ROMS) for the collection. Suggested titles should reflect the instructional program.
  • CD's are the preferred format for music. Selectors as much as possible, should avoid recommending cassette tapes for the collection.

Cataloging Policies

  • Music scores: all music scores classified MI-M2199 will be shelved/ labeled for the multimedia collection.
  • Recorded music: records and CD's will be cataloged according to the AACRL2 /OCLC music and entered into the online catalog. The call number will be the accession number. The status will be "Library Use Only."
  • Equipment, scores, and CD's will be tagged for security purposes.

Replacement Charges

Prior to checking out materials, patrons must sign a form stating that they will pay the replacement and damaged items cost and processing charge.
If materials are not returned after twenty days from the date due, patrons are charged the replacement costs for the items plus a processing charge of $5.00. Materials returned after the twenty days, are only charged the processing charge, which is non-refundable.

For the Borrower at time of checkout:

I am aware that this item can have a value above $100.00 and acknowledge that I am responsible for the cost of this item, if it is not returned.
