Sukenya Best is a native New Yorker who currently lives in Richmond, VA. She is an alumnus from Virginia Commonwealth University (VCU), Department of Painting and Printmaking, BFA 2001, where she also studied in Europe and Africa. She received a Master of Fine Arts Degree from the University of Tennessee, Knoxville (UT) where she specialized in printmaking. Her artworks are represented in collections in New Delhi and Gujarat, India. In the states, her works have been exhibited at Pen & Brush Inc. (New York), Pittsburgh Center for the Arts (Pennsylvania), Kansas City Art Institute (Missouri), Corcoran School of Arts (Washington DC), and the Cultural Arts Center at Glen Allen (Glen Allen, VA).
Currently, Sukenya is an assistant professor at J. Sargeant Reynolds Community College and a full-time Instructor at Virginia Union University. She teaches courses in drawing, painting, and design. She has worked with artists such as: Whitfield Lovell, Millicent Johnnie, Roger Shimomura, John Newman, Beauvais Lyons, and Anita Jung. And, she has also collaborated with dance companies such as the Circle Modern Dance Company (Knoxville, TN), and the Latin Ballet of Virginia (Richmond, VA).
