Computer Science
This department offers graduate and undergraduate degrees, as well as certificate programs. These include: a Master of Science in Computer Science and Information Technology; a Bachelor of Science in Computer Science, with a choice of technical and applied learning tracks; a Minor in Computer Science, and a Certificate in Computer Programming intended for students with bachelor's degrees in other fields who wish to pursue careers in computer programming.
In addition to classroom learning, the computer science curriculum integrates extensive laboratory study, which enables students to work directly on projects in a wide range of technical areas. The department's faculty spends considerable time engaging IT professionals in business and government to ensure that its curriculum addresses the most current trends and issues. As a result, its program is one of the few in North Carolina to have received accreditation twice from two different boards; it also has satisfied some boards most demanding accreditation requirements, receiving certification for the longest time periods allowed.
