Diggs Gallery Reschedules Benefit Art Auction
Diggs Gallery has rescheduled its annual art auction. The auction, previously scheduled for April 5 will be held in Fall 2008. More information will follow as we get closer to the date.
Donations and auction proceeds help serve the community by supporting recent exhibitions like ASCENSION II: A Legacy of Self-taught African American Artists of North Carolina and Continuity and Change: Three Generations of Ethiopian Artists and community programs such as Pride & Dignity from the Hill. The gallery appreciates the continued generous support of the local and regional community. Please contact us for more information.

Diggs Gallery is named for James Thackeray “T” Diggs, Jr. (1915-1989), a 1934 graduate of Winston-Salem State, a painter and a former WSSU art professor for more than 40 years. The gallery is the major cultural center at Winston-Salem State University and offers one of the largest exhibition spaces dedicated to the arts of Africa and the African Diaspora in North Carolina. Exhibitions, publications and programs address abroad range of artistic expression, with special concentration on African-American and regional art.
FREE and OPEN to the Public Tuesday - Saturday (11:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m.) Donations are Gratefully Accepted

In addition to fine art exhibitions, the gallery hosts a number of interdisciplinary educational programs such as: musical performances, dance, drumming, artist workshops, theater productions and film screenings. Our events are free, open to the public and great for people of all ages. By appointment, the gallery also offers guided educational tours of the current exhibits, Biggers' Murals, and the WSSU Sculpture Garden.
Mission
The mission of Diggs Gallery is to serve as a cultural meeting place where art can educate and enlighten with the belief that art documents our heritage and brings communities together. It, therefore, becomes a teaching facility, community center, art gallery and meeting place geared to augment and support academic life on campus. Committed to serving the university family, the gallery also exists to increase WSSU's role in the community and involve the North Carolina audience as the university seeks to make a stronger contribution to the cultural life of the region.
