Center for Mathematics, Science, and Technology Education

The WSSU Center for Mathematics, Science, and Technology Education (CMSTE), established by the 2003 North Carolina General Assembly, is the newest North Carolina Mathematics and Science Education Network (NC-MSEN) Center. The coordinating offices are the WSSU CMSTE office and the College of Arts, Sciences, Business and Education. A major goal of NC-MSEN is to increase the pool of students who graduate from North Carolina high schools and prepare them to pursue majors in science, technology, engineering and/or mathematics. The WSSU NC-MSEN Pre-College Program recruits students from grades (6-12) to focus on mathematics and science careers and targets students from underrepresented populations who have not been prepared to pursue high-level mathematics and science-based courses.  The WSSU NC-MSEN Pre-College Program is the largest pre-college program at Winston-Salem State University.

The mission of the state's NC-MSEN Program is to strengthen the quality and increase the number of teachers in mathematics and science education and to increase the pool of North Carolina high school graduates prepared to pursue careers requiring mathematics and science. The CMSTE is a unit in WSSU's College of Arts, Sciences, Business and Education and consists of two components - WSSU Professional Development Program, the WSSU NC-MSEN Pre-College Program, and "STEM"ulate

The NC-MSEN Professional Development Program is committed to providing high quality professional development programs in mathematics and science education that enhance teacher learning and support state and national educational guidelines.

The NC-MSEN Pre-College Program recruits students to focus on mathematics and science careers and targets students from underrepresented populations who have not been prepared to pursue high-level mathematics and science-based courses.

STEMulate - "STEM"ulate programs are engaging, encouraging and expand students minds with Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics.
