Biography

Johanna Porter-Kelley, Ph.D. is an associate professor of microbiology, in the Department of Life Sciences at Winston Salem State University (WSSU). She received her BS degree in Biology from University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and her Ph.D. in Microbiology (Molecular Parasitology) from Meharry Medical College in Nashville, TN.  Dr. Porter-Kelley serves her Department as the General Microbiology Course Coordinator and Biology Program Co-coordinator and a member of the Scholarship Committee, Curriculum Committee,  and Molecular/Biotech Committee.  She serves on the University Tenure Promotion Committee and as a freshman advisor.   In the community, she serves her local church as financial secretary and mass choir director.  She is also an active member of Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority, Inc. serving as advisor to Winston Salem State Chapter and  SGR rep in National PanHellenic Council of Winston Salem/Forsyth County Representative.  In addition, participates in March of Dimes walks, Youth Symposium, and Habitat for Humanity.
