Real Men Teach Hosts Forum on Charter Schools

November 8, 2011
Real Men Teach, a support program for males enrolled in teacher education programs at Winston-Salem State University (WSSU), is presenting a Charter School Forum on Tuesday, November 15, from 5:30 until 7:30 p.m. to enhance community awareness about charter schools.

The event, which is free and open to the public, will be in the McNeil Banquet Hall of the Anderson Conference Center on the WSSU campus.  Reservations are requested and can be made by calling Holly Pitts at 750-2467 or Malishai Woodbury at 997-2286.

“The forum is designed for community leaders, educators and anyone interested in starting a charter school,” said Holly M. Pitts, project coordinator for Real Men Teach. “There will be presentations and a panel discussion on several topics concerning how well students perform at charter schools and how charter schools compare to public schools.  There will also be time for questions on how to become involved in this type of alternative education.”

Participants in the program include Dottie Heath from the N. C. Department of Public Instruction, Kwan Graham, parent liaison coordinator for the Governor’s Committee for Charter Schools, N. C. Representative Earline Parmon, Tom Humble, principal of Raleigh Charter School in Raleigh and Simon Johnson, chief executive officer of the Quality Education Academy in Winston-Salem.
