University Group Policy #600.2
This policy is adopted for the orderly use of university facilities by university groups, university-sponsored groups and external groups.
Recognizing that its support is derived in large part from public funds, Winston-Salem State University is committed to making its facilities and property readily available for use by groups and individuals whose programs are consistent with the University's educational mission.
The scope of the policy which follows is not intended to cover the regular business related to use of academic department and divisional office space and conference rooms, as this is covered by a separate policy overseen by the University Space Committee.
Guiding Principles for Use of Facilities (& Associated Grounds & Parking)
The accomplishment of the educational mission of the University shall be considered to have first priority in all decisions concerning any use of any facility under this policy. Use of any facility shall not be authorized where such use may disturb the conduct of University activities.
University facilities will not be used for any political activity, except as a certified polling location established by the state or local Board of Elections.
Academic & Administrative facilities are typically assigned to an academic or administrative unit. When these facilities are not scheduled for use by Academic or Administrative units, the facilities may be scheduled and reserved for other appropriate uses.
Student facilities and residence halls are assigned to Student Affairs. When these facilities are not scheduled for use by Student Affairs, the facilities may be scheduled and reserved for other appropriate uses.
Athletic facilities and associated outdoor grounds areas are assigned to the Athletics Department. When these facilities are not scheduled for use by Athletics, the facilities and grounds may be scheduled and reserved for other appropriate uses.

Procedures for the Assignment of Space
The Chancellor and Provost shall promulgate guidelines for the assignment and use of space not inconsistent with this policy.
This policy is applicable to the campus community of Winston-Salem State University.
