600.3 - Microfridge Rental

University Group Policy #600.3

#.  Policy Statement

Residential students are only permitted to have a microwave in their rooms if they rent a microfridge (microwave refrigerator combination) through the Office of Residence Life and Housing.

#.    Guidelines

Student who reside in Atkins, Martin-Schnexnider, Wilson, and Moore residence halls are allowed to rent a microfridge from the approved vendor. Students are not allowed to bring their own microwaves into the rooms because of safety issues. If a student rents a micro-fridge, then he or she will not be charged the refrigerator usage and registration fee.

Students are permitted to provide their own refrigerator provided that it is not larger than 4.0 cubic feet. Students who bring their own personal refrigerator will be required to register the refrigerator and pay a registration fee of $15 per semester or $30 per academic year.

Students who reside in Gleason Harrison Terrace, Rams Commons, and Foundation Heights are provided a microfridge as part of their residential housing contract but are permitted to provide their own refrigerator provided that it is not larger than 4.0 cubic feet. Students who chose to bring their own personal refrigerator for these residential facilities will be required to register the refrigerator and pay a registration fee of $40 per semester.

The registration sticker must be displayed on the personal refrigerator at all times in a visible location. If the sticker is not visible during a Health and Safety inspection, then the student will receive a $100 one-time fine and will then be required to re-register the refrigerator, including payment of registration fees, regardless of the time or semester. A list of approved appliances that are permitted in the residence halls is available on the housing website and provided to students as part of their housing registration information packets.
