In 1998, the president of the system Molly Broad included funding for an ongoing teaching and learning center at each campus. WSSU started its Center in August 2000 as CITTLE – Center for Innovative Teaching, Technology, Learning, and Evaluation. The first four years were spent introducing faculty to teaching with technology. In 2007, the Center was renamed the Center for Excellence in Teaching & Learning (CETL) and a greater emphasis was placed on pedagogy skills. Various workshops, evaluations, and trainings are offered through CETL to enhance teaching excellence in all departments.
