The Science, Literacy, Enrichment and Mathematics (SLEM) Program is a component of the NC-MSEN Pre-College Program. SLEM is designed to provide "STEM" enrichment, with a focus in literacy, to underserved, at-risk 3rd, 4th and 5th graders with an emphasis on minority males.
The SLEM Academy of the NC-MSEN Pre-College Program occurs during the fall and spring semesters. The students will receive academic instruction in science, literacy, enrichment, and mathematics. The SLEM Academy aims to engage students on Saturdays twice a month where they will be actively engaged in hands-on activities to enhance their communication skills, critical thinking, and writing ability. Furthermore, these students will interact with guest speakers and participate in community-related experiences and field trips.
The NC-MSEN SLEM Academy will admit 3rd, 4th and 5th graders on a first-come first-serve basis with priority given to underserved, at-risk male students.
In order to be considered for the 2018-19 SLEM Academy academic year, students must submit an application, along with a $50.00 registration fee on or before September 29th. After September 29th, a late fee of $25.00 will be charged.
