Critical Language Scholarship
The CLS Program is an in-country language and cultural immersion program for American undergraduate and graduate students. CLS is a US State Department program. It currently supports the following South Asian languages: Bangla (Bengali), Hindi, Punjabi, and Urdu.

Foreign Language and Area Studies (FLAS) Fellowships
Select institutions of higher education receive Title VI funds from the US Department of Education to award academic year and summer FLAS Fellowships to competitive undergraduate and graduate students to study less commonly taught foreign languages and related area or international studies. Although this varies from institution to institutions, students may be able to apply for FLAS funding for summer study in a language program that the institutional also supports. The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, for example, awards FLAS fellowships for Hindi study. Click here to learn more about FLAS at UNC-CH.
