Application and Decision Processing
For online applications an automatic confirmation is sent as soon as the application is submitted.
Approximately two weeks after submitting you application – online or on paper – you will receive an email notification from the Admission’s Office confirming receipt of your application and whether or not the application is complete or incomplete. If your application is incomplete the email will include the documents you need to submit to complete the application. This email will also include instructions for selecting your first and second preferred sites. Please complete this selection as soon as possible.
These emails will be sent on a weekly basis until your application packet is complete or the deadline for submitting all documents has passed. Emails are sent to the email address you provided on your application.
You should also expect a follow-up call from Admissions and the RN-BSN program to assist you with any questions you have regarding missing documents or to request additional information/documents.
When your application packet is complete it will be reviewed for your admissibility to WSSU. If you are not admissible to WSSU you will receive a denial letter. If you are admissible to WSSU, your transcripts will be forward to the Registrar’s Office to evaluate the credits that will transfer to WSSU. You can view the credits transferred to WSSU through Banner Rams Online. You will need your Banner ID and your PIN (initially set to your birthdate as mmddyy).
If you are a 2nd degree-seeking student or received an AA or AS degree from a North Carolina Community College (NCCC) your file will be sent to the Division of Nursing for an admission decision to the RN-BSN program.
If you are not a 2nd degree-seeking student or have not received an AA or AS degree from a NCCC your file will be evaluated by an Academic Success Counselors in University College and Lifelong Learning to determine if you meet the WSSU General Education requirements.
- If you do not meet the General Education requirements you will receive a notification that you will not be considered for admission to RN-BSN option. This notification will include a copy of your WSSU General Education Evaluation.
- If you meet the General Education requirements your file will be sent to the Division of Nursing for an admission decision to the RN-BSN program.
An admission decision is made by the Division of Nursing and, if necessary, clarification about your preferred site is made.
The decision by the Division of Nursing is communicated by the Office of Admissions and notifications are sent informing you of the decision.
WHAT SHOULD I DO IF I AM ACCEPTED TO THE RN-BSN PROGRAM?
If you were currently enrolled in courses at the time you applied, you must submit final, official transcripts to the Admissions Office before the first day of class.
Complete the next steps – directions for completing these steps will be included in your decision letter. Next steps include accepting your offer of admission, applying for financial aid, and completing an online orientation to the university.
WHAT SHOULD I DO IF I AM NOT ACCEPTED TO THE RN-BSN PROGRAM?
If you are not admitted to either the university or the RN-BSN program you may reapply at the time you feel that you have met the admission’s requirements. A new application fee will be assessed.
If you are admitted to the university but not to the RN-BSN program we encourage you to enroll in courses necessary to meet the requirements for admission to the RN-BSN program.
If you choose to enroll at WSSU and maintain continuous enrollment at WSSU you will not be required to reapply or pay an additional application fee to be considered for admission to the RN-BSN program. However, if you also take courses at another college while enrolled at WSSU, those transcripts must to be sent to the Registrar’s Office.
You will be assigned an advisor in the Division of Nursing who will assist in determining when you are ready to re-apply to the RN-BSN option.
If you do not enroll at WSSU you will be required to restart the RN-BSN application process when you are ready and pay a new application fee.
