WSSU Golf Classic raises more than $40,000 for scholarships
The Winston-Salem State University Foundation welcomed 133 golfers for the 18th Annual WSSU Golf Classic, raising $40,340 for student scholarships.
The 18-hole tournament, held at Meadowlands Golf Club on April 13, featured lunch, prizes and awards.
All proceeds from the event go directly to WSSU’s General Scholarship Fund.
Winners included:
- Longest drive: Anthony Loden (men), Sara Ruiz (women)
- Closest to the pin: Clay Souther, Bo Clary, Stephanie Copper and Janet Wheeler
- First Place – Tim Grant, Butch Wheeler, James Mitchell, Richard Daniel (53)
- Second Place – Kenneth Bigelow, John Williams, Don Cureton, Alton Ellison (53)
- Third Place – Larry Butler, Charles Butler, Richard Thomas, Jean Williams (54)

The WSSU Golf Classic is one of the Triad's premier golf events, and is one of the WSSU Foundation’s largest fundraisers.
