Barnes & Noble College chosen to manage WSSU’s campus bookstore

Winston-Salem State University (WSSU) has named Barnes & Noble College as the new operator of its on-campus bookstore. The WSSU bookstore will transition to new management beginning on June 12.

“We are excited about bringing the resources of Barnes & Noble College to Winston-Salem State University," said Jesse Batten, assistant vice chancellor of Business and Auxiliary Services. "Barnes & Noble is recognized for its ability to bring innovative programs to college and university campuses. The selection will allow the bookstore to offer students a variety of affordable materials."

Barnes & Noble College also is committed to having a significantly larger presence to serve students, faculty and staff, Batten said. Under the contract, Barnes & Noble will nearly double the size of its location in the Cleon F. Thompson Student Services Center, from 3,658 square feet to 6,067 square feet.

As part of the transition, please note the following:

  • Monday, June 12: Bookstore will close under current management at 5 p.m.
  • Monday, June 19: Bookstore reopens under Barnes & Noble College name and branding.

Barnes & Noble College offers a variety of affordable course materials, including in-store and online rental textbook program, an extensive selection of used, new and digital textbooks, OER Courseware, as well as a new price matching program – offering even more savings to students.

Barnes & Noble College will also offer WSSU students a bookstore that reflects the university’s unique brand, including an expanded selection of Rams logo apparel, laptops and other technology products, school supplies, reference and reading materials, as well as gifts for alumni, friends and family. A variety of beverages, food and snack items also will be offered at the bookstore.

Barnes & Noble College will create and manage WSSU’s online bookstore website, offering students, faculty and alumni the choice and convenience to shop in-store or online.

WSSU faculty also will gain access to an online community called FacultyEnlight, a streamlined textbook adoption platform that combines advanced search capabilities with detailed information on course material formats, pricing and reviews by other faculty.

WSSU is one of 20 higher education institutions that Barnes & Noble College partners with in the state of North Carolina, including North Carolina A&T State University, Wake Technical Community College, Salem College and Academy, and University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.
