Dr. Tony Artimisi appointed as Associate Provost of Academic Strategy and Institutional Effectiveness

After a national search, I am pleased to announce that Dr. Tony Artimisi has been appointed the Associate Provost of Academic Strategy and Institutional Effectiveness effective July 1, 2023. In this role, Dr. Artimisi will be responsible for providing leadership, direction, and coordination of academic program relevancy and quality assurance. Dr. Artimisi will work collaboratively with the academic deans, department chairs, program coordinators, and faculty leadership to articulate Program Level Outcomes for each functional area and Student Learning Outcomes for every academic degree program. Additionally, he will lead efforts to assess the productivity outcomes of academic degree programs while concurrently evaluating opportunities to onboard new degree programs consistent with the institution’s mission and strengths aligned to the university’s strategic plan. Dr. Artimisi will also serve as the institution’s liaison to SACSCOC and will have major responsibilities for institutional compliance and institutional effectiveness.

Dr. Tony Artimisi

Dr. Artimisi has over 20 years of experience in higher education. He came to WSSU in 2005 to serve as an instructor and subsequently earned promotion and tenure as a faculty member in the Department of Music. He has served as the chairperson of the Department of Liberal Studies where he provided oversight of departmental operations, program evaluation and development, curricular renewal, department assessment planning, and employee performance evaluations. Since July 2022, Dr. Artimisi has served as the interim Associate Provost of Academic Strategy and Institutional Effectiveness where he has worked to improve institutional policies related to student success, enhance processes with SACSCOC accreditation, facilitated a reduction in the number of student learning outcomes for the General Education curriculum, and educated the campus community on institutional effectiveness.

The event will be held at 7 p.m. on April 17 at the Benton Convention Center in downtown Winston-Salem. It is free to attend; however, tickets are required.
