WSSU SGA President to Become Member of Board of Trustees

Winston-Salem State University officially welcomes Tyrone McNair, 2023-24, student government president, as a member of its Board of Trustees. He will take his oath of office at the September BOT meeting.

McNair, a junior majoring in sports management with a concentration in marketing, was elected SGA president during the spring semester, a position that entails serving as the ex-officio member of the BOT. He will serve on the BOT for the 2023-24 academic year.

A native of Charlotte, North Carolina, and a graduate of Rocky River High School in Mint Hill, McNair was a three-sport athlete competing in football, basketball, and track.

During his time at WSSU, he has served on the SGA class council, as a member of the NAACP, and as a marketing team member for Career Development Services. He is also a 2022 initiate into WSSU’s chapter of Phi Eta Sigma National Honors Society and a 2023 initiate into the Beta Iota chapter of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc.

“I ran for SGA president because I believe I can make a positive impact for the students of WSSU. I take this role very seriously because our voices deserve to be heard meaningfully,” said McNair.

He says his administration will be working on a plan that complements the university’s strategic plan. Additionally, he feels it’s important to help students see how they fit into the strategic plan so that we are all working together to achieve our common goals.

“We have to do this together, and I’m ready to get to work. Our mission will be centered around what’s best for the students of WSSU.”
