WSSU becomes first HBCU in North Carolina to fully support Apple devices

Winston-Salem State University has expanded its technology support to fully include Macs, iPads and iPhones. This makes WSSU the first HBCU in North Carolina to offer secure, campus-wide Apple device access that allows students, faculty and staff to sign in using their regular university username and password.

This forward-thinking milestone reflects WSSU’s commitment to innovation, digital transformation and excellence in computing. Faculty and staff can now select Apple or PC-based technology that best matches their work styles without compromising performance, security or support.

The expansion was made possible through a collaborative partnership with Apple’s North Carolina Education team, whose guidance and technical support helped WSSU build a secure, scalable and fully integrated Apple environment.

“This is about more than choice, it’s about expanding innovation and enabling excellence,” said Raisha Cobb, associate provost for Information Resources & Chief Information Officer. “We’ve built an environment where an employee can be fully set up on a Mac within minutes using their university login credentials. As part of this initiative, we were able to meet our goals of realizing cost savings and improving IT efficiency, all while providing faculty and staff with a modern computing environment that enhances their experience and increases productivity.”

The initiative directly supports WSSU’s strategic commitment to institutional excellence, which emphasizes enhancing technological infrastructure, optimizing processes and aligning resources to advance institutional performance and mission delivery.

By expanding device options and supporting both Apple and PC environments, WSSU strengthens its ability to deliver best-in-class IT support, attract and retain top talent, and foster a computing environment that reflects the diverse needs and ambitions of its university community.
