Venus D. Boston

Biography

Attorney Venus D. Boston is a three-time honors graduate of North Carolina Central University (NCCU), earning a Bachelor of Arts in English (2004), a Master of Public Administration (2006), and a Juris Doctorate from NCCU School of Law (2012). She is currently the Deputy Chief Legal Counsel and Adjunct Professor of Business Law in the College of Economics and Finance here at Winston-Salem State University (WSSU).

Prior to joining WSSU, Venus worked for Washington County Public Schools in Eastern North Carolina where she served as the Family and Community Engagement Coordinator and Legal Advisor. She was responsible for bridging the gap between the school system and the community, as well as advising the Superintendent and staff. In 2013, she organized the first Back-to-School and Community Empowerment Festival bringing the community together, which fostered a new relationship with the school district. Although she is no longer present in the Washington County community, the product of her work still carries forward.

Venus is the principal founder of the Winston-Salem State University Elite Lawyers-in-Training program that seeks to prepare undergraduate students for law school and life after college. She takes pride in mentoring and preparing students for life, which is reflected as one of her gifts here at WSSU.

Since her senior year of High School, she has served in leadership positions for her classes and earned numerous awards, such as the Floyd B. McKissick Award in law school for outstanding leadership and academics. She recently earned the Winston under 40 Award for Outstanding Young Leaders in the Winston-Salem community (2016) , as well as the NCCU 40 under 40 Award (2016).

Venus conducted a number of internships, including a Judicial Clerkship with a Federal Magistrate Judge for the United States Eastern District of the State of North Carolina, and served under two United States Attorneys as a Federal Assistant United States Attorney Law Clerk. Venus is a member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc.
