Biography

I grew up in the mountains of NC and attended Appalachian State University receiving a B.S. in Biology, Concentration Medical Technology (the old name for CLS). As part of my B.S. from ASU I attended the MT program at NC Baptist Hospital here in Winston-Salem. I worked at Mission Hospitals in Asheville, NC following graduation and began teaching at Asheville-Buncombe Technical Community College. I earned my Master of Arts in Teaching in Secondary Biology from Western Carolina University and earned additional hours at the Master's level in Biology so that I could teach at the Community College level. I then became an Assistant Professor in the Clinical Laboratory Science program at Western Carolina University. In 2009 I came to WSSU and currently teach Immunology and Immunohematology as well as Intro to CLS, Community Clinical Experience, and occasionally other courses in the CLS program. I also serve as the Clinical Coordinator for CLS. I am currently pursuing my Ph.D. in Educational Leadership and Policy Analysis at North Carolina State University.
