Biography

Dr. Vincent T. Snipes is currently the Director of the Center for Mathematics, Science, and Technology Education and a Professor of Mathematics Education in the Department of Mathematics at Winston-Salem State University. Dr. Snipes has taught at the high school, community college, and university levels. His research focuses on the mathematics education of African-American students and policy and equity issues in mathematics education.

Dr. Snipes is the Secondary Mathematics Education Coordinator at Winston-Salem State University. Dr. Snipes served as a mathematics consultant for the National Science Foundation (NSF) SCIMAX Grant held by the Winston-Salem/Forsyth County Public Schools, where he conducted mathematics workshops for public school teachers grades 3-8. Furthermore, he conducts Family Math Activities for students and their parents at various schools within the Winston-Salem/Forsyth County school district. Dr. Snipes serves on the NC State Mathematics Contest Committee and is the contest chair and creator of the Winston-Salem State University Mathematics Faceoff Contest.

Some of Dr. Snipes' awards and honors earned are North Carolina Teaching Fellow, North Carolina Council of Teachers of Mathematics Outstanding Mathematics Education Student of the Year (Central Region), North Carolina Council of Teachers of Mathematics Innovator Award in 2010, the McKnight Doctoral Fellowship, as well as induction into numerous honor societies. He was the first North Carolina Teaching Fellow to receive a Ph.D., which took place in 1997.
