WSSU National Alumni Association Life Members Establish Scholarship

Chair of the Winston-Salem State University Board of Trustees, Dr. William “Bill” Harris (‘58), and his wife, Clara Estelle Harris (‘60), are celebrating more than 56 years of service to the university. In 2010, the WSSU National Alumni Association Life Members established the William U. & C. Estelle Harris Endowed Scholarship. It is awarded annually to full-time students majoring in education, health sciences, or nursing with a GPA of 3.0 or higher.

The Harris’ are loyal supporters of the university and credit having rewarding careers and successful lives to the education they received at WSSU. They are also grateful that the university instilled in them the desire and responsibility to serve others by giving back to those in need.

Trustee Harris worked in several capacities at both the Educational Testing Service in Princeton, New Jersey and the College Board in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania before retiring. He has served on several boards, including: the WSSU Board of Visitors as past chair; Richard Stockton State University; Westminster Choir College; and Ewing Township (N.J.) School Board. Harris is a member of the Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc. and past member of the Urban League of Metropolitan Trenton.
