Parent Involvement for Excellence (PIE)

Parental commitment is a vital component of the success of scholars involved in the programs within the North Carolina Mathematics and Science Education Network (NC-MSEN) Pre-College Program at Winston-Salem State University. The Parents Involved for Excellence (PIE) Club meets periodically on the WSSU campus during Saturday Academy sessions. Attendance at these meetings provides parents and guardians with opportunities to stay informed about upcoming program events, support scholar activities, and actively participate in the continued growth and success of the program.

The PIE Club plays a vital role in supporting the NC-MSEN Pre-College Program by assisting with fundraising efforts and providing additional resources that enhance the overall experience for scholars. While NC-MSEN programs receive state funding, budget reductions have significantly impacted the financial support available for program activities. As a result, Parents Involved for Excellence (PIE) serves as a critical parental support organization whose primary objective is to ensure that the WSSU NC-MSEN Pre-College Program and its scholars have the tools, opportunities, and resources necessary for a successful academic year.

PIE is a proud member of the North Carolina PTA and operates in accordance with its rules, policies, and regulations.

Through fundraising, donations, and community partnerships, PIE provides financial assistance and program support for a variety of scholar activities and initiatives, including:

  • Annual STEM Competition (transportation, meals, team apparel, and lodging)
  • Annual End-of-Year Awards Celebration and Banquet
  • Transportation for College Recruitment Events and Campus Tours
  • SAT/ACT Preparation Programs
  • Clifton Strengths Assessment for scholars
  • Field Trip Assistance
  • Summer Camp and Enrichment Program Assistance
  • Leadership development and scholar recognition initiatives

All donations, whether monetary contributions or the provision of goods and services are instrumental in allowing PIE to provide these and other valuable opportunities for our scholars. Your continued support and partnership are greatly appreciated.

In addition, PIE will begin accepting nominations for its Executive Cabinet for the 2026–2027 academic year, including the following leadership positions:

  • President
  • Vice President
  • Treasurer
  • Secretary
  • Committee Chairs

Parents and guardians interested in serving in a leadership role and supporting the continued growth of the program are encouraged to participate in the nomination and election process in the fall. Together, we can continue to strengthen the program and expand opportunities for our scholars!
