WS-SQSB accepts applications until Friday, May. 1, 2026 at 11:59 PM EDT.


WS-SQSB is an intensive hands-on training program for High School students in science & engineering; a collaborative effort between the University of Maryland (UMD) and the Winston-Salem Quantum Institute (WSQI). The program includes 2 weeks of hands-on training in the state-of-the-art research facilities at Winston-Salem State University that includes topics such as:

  • Intro to Python Programming
  • Application of Electronics and Circuits
  • Pressure and Vacuum Systems
  • Cryogenic Measurements
  • Light and MW/RF Systems
  • Intro to Quantum Science and Simulations

The application system for the summer of 2026 will be open from Jan. 13, 2026. Participants will receive a stipend for the duration of the program. Additional travel grants will be made available to the participants for presenting at select local/national conferences following the completion of the program. Interested students are required to apply using the APPLY NOW button above no later than May 1, 2026.
